The Guest Country Evening 2026 will take place on the 17th of October, from 21:00 to 23:45. Before that, there is a reception with Norwegian food and drinks, starting at 20:00.

Welcome to Cologne, Norwegian film editors!
In the past it was primarily films from Sweden and Denmark that received international recognition from amongst the Scandinavian countries. But in recent years an increasing number of award-winning productions from Norway have helped shine a light on the many fantastic films being created by Norwegian filmmakers. Oslo Stories: Dreams by Dag Johan Haugerud won the Golden Bear at the Berlinale 2025, whilst Sentimental Value by Joachim Trier was awarded the Grand Prix du Jury at Cannes 2025 and went on to win the Oscar for Best International Feature Film in 2026. The British newspaper The Guardian quotes director Halfdan Ullmann Tøndel as saying: „We are in a golden age of Norwegian cinema”.
It is therefore an ideal time for Edimotion to invite Norway as this year's Guest Country. In collaboration with the professional association Norske Filmklippere (N:F:K) and thanks to the support of the Norwegian Film Institute (NFI), we are expecting a large delegation of twelve film editors to arrive from Norway! They will help shape many events in our international program, like the Academy and the International Film Editors Forum (IFEF). The highlight will be our Guest Country Evening, during which we will screen the Berlinale winner Oslo Stories: Dreams. The film is partly a coming-of-age story about dealing with an intense infatuation, and partly a witty comedy about three generations of women and their thoughts on relationships. The screening will be followed by an in-depth film talk with editor Jens Christian Fodstad. A winner of multiple editing awards, Fodstad has recently also spent a year working as a film commissioner for the Norwegian Film Institute.
The Guest Country Evening will open with welcoming remarks from Erland Edenholm, chairman of the N:F:K, and board member Bobbie E. G. Pertan. Before that, we will have a reception with Norwegian food and drinks.

Sixteen-year-old Johanne (Ella Øverbye) develops an infatuation for her female French teacher Johanna (Selome Emnetu). To cope with her intense crush, she writes down her emotions and experiences. A year later, the text has grown to 95 pages. When her mother (Ane Dahl Torp) and grandmother (Anne Marit Jacobsen) read it, they are initially shocked by its intimate content but soon recognize its literary potential. As they debate whether to publish it, Johanne navigates the gap between her romantic fantasy and reality, and all three women confront their differing views on love, sexuality, and self-discovery.

Jens Christian Fodstad is an Oslo-based film editor with experience from the UK and Norwegian film and television industries. He holds a Master of Arts degree in editing from the National Film and Television School, UK, in addition to studies in literature, film and media from the Universities of Bergen, Norway and Copenhagen, Denmark.
Fodstad was born 1969 in the industrial town of Sarpsborg, 100 kilometers south of Oslo. He applied to several film schools, and in 2000 he started at the editing course in the National Film and Television School. Since then he has spent his time editing across a variety of formats and genres, with feature films for cinema gradually becoming the main occupation. He has collaborated on several films of ambitious Norwegian directors like Eskil Vogt, Hans Petter Moland, Harald Zwart and Dag Johan Haugerud. He has been nominated seven times for the Norwegian Film Award Amanda – Best Editing, winning four, including for Oslo Stories: Dreams. He has also received three Kanon Awards.
Aside from his occupation as a film editor, Jens Christian Fodstad has also worked as a freelance script consultant. From March 2025 until February 2026 he held a full-time position as a film commissioner for the Norwegian Film Institute (NFI).
